The Oak Lawn Community Partnership Council is a cooperative alliance between the Village of Oak Lawn, Illinois, Advocate Christ Medical Center, and business, civic, church, and school leaders

The Partnership started In 1995 when representatives from Advocate Christ Medical Center requested a meeting with then Mayor Ernest Kolb to discuss national health initiatives (Healthy People 2000) and movements in healthcare toward health promotion through community partnerships. Mayor Kolb enthusiastically embraced the ideas and together with Christ Medical Center leaders, began laying the groundwork for the Partnership. Health Screenings

In May of 1996 the first meeting was held at the Village Hall. The Partnership began outlining their objectives and goals. The original members, working in conjunction with the Oak Lawn Area United Way, conducted a needs assessment - a tool used to determine the areas of greatest needs in the community.

Soon, the Partnership began developing specific programs to address these needs. In 1997, area clergy formed the Oak Lawn Clergy Association - this group still meets monthly to this day. These church leaders concurred with the data on homelessness and noted the increase in utilization of the church food pantries. At the same time, a young homeless man died due to exposure about one block from the Village Hall. All members of the Partnership knew that it was vitally important to tackle homelessness. They invited the South Suburban PADS - Public Action to Deliver Shelter - administrators and soon a program to help the homeless in the Oak Lawn area was developed. See PADS.

In 1997 & 1998, the Partnership hosted two Wellness Day health fairs at Oak Lawn Community High School. At these events, over 60 organizations provided screenings, car seat safety checks, and information for hundreds of area residents. A need for improved access to health screenings was identified at the health fairs and a monthly blood pressure screening program was developed.
